Clube Hebraica Em Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Live streamed on EB-TV and broadcast on BandSports and Esporte Interativo in Brazil.

The first WGP event in Rio de Janeiro. October 31st at WGP #27 Thiago Michel defends his 78kg title against Fernando Nonato, a highly anticipated fight between two of the best Brazilian kickboxers. The card also features a traditional Challenger GP, a four man one-night tournament that will determine the next contender in the same division. The GP features four talented fighters who are hungry to win two fights in the same night and claim a shot to win the belt. Chilean Victor Valenzuela will face Ruan Ferreira, while at the other semifinal Jorge Daniel will battle Diego Gaucho.

A 31-year-old veteran, Thiago Michel was born in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state. He became the first and still undisputed 78kg WGP champion in July 2014, by winning the Challenger GP defeating Diego Sebastiao and Inaftali Gomes on judges’ unanimous decision. Carrying an impressive 40-3 record, he will now face an even more experienced kickboxer in Fernando Nonato, who has already fought 86 times in his career, winning 74 times. Nonato was expected to fight at WGP #21, when Michel won the championship, but an injury forced him to withdraw from the event.

The WGP #27 Challenger GP will feature the four best 78kg fighters from Latin America. Chilean Victor Valenzuela has already fought and loss to Thiago Michel, at the Kickboxing World Championship final back in 2014. His opponent Ruan Ferreira fought at WGP #21, losing in the semifinal. A three-time kickboxing world champion, Jorge Daniel will lock horns against Diego Gaucho, who’s already won a GP back in 2013 at WGP #14 knocking the current belt challenger Fernando Nonato with an impressive high kick.
